Not all of this will be pithy pundit publications about Pontiacs – hell yeah, alliteration. You are all along for the ride. This journey, this road trip, where I try and turn an interest into a living or at least a legit “thing.” This whole effort – with its many names and faces – has been a passion project for almost a decade now. Starting while deployed and now with my recent retirement from the military, I’ve now been rewarded with a little more stability and freedom.
So what exactly are we doing here? Is this just a personal blog, building a brand, or exercising freelance opportunities. I’m not sure, but for the sake of automotive puns, “I’m just going for a ride.”
I’ve previously written about the impact that vehicles and media outlets like Donut have had on my life. I’ve been upfront, while my sarcastic stylings are often tongue in cheek, this is a very personal journey for me. In some ways a means to establish some type of legacy not just for myself, but for my late son whose dreams were so big and whose time was cut so short. A way to bond with his little brother and show his little sister there is a place for her in the automotive world if she so chooses. So as cheesy as that might sound, it’s the truth.
While I don’t log into LinkedIn often, recently during a diversion excursion around the internet I found myself on my oft neglected feed. Low and behold Donut had posted an inquiry for script writers. If 20 years in the Air Force taught me anything, the worst they can say is no. But Audrey from Donut was super nice and gave me a chance. And I will preface this now, working with her on the script was amazing and educational. Very much a learning experience for me as a novice, but the end result was something I could be proud of.
BUT, they also got an interview with a modern Cannonballer which ended up reframing the segment. SO, while the majority of my script wasn’t used, some of my research and wording snuck its way into the more historical parts. Please check out the video, share it, like it, comment. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with an outlet that has had such an impact on me and my son. I look forward to any and all future opportunities with them!
As I said before, this is a journey, a road trip. All puns intended. I’m glad you are all here with me, but we aren’t stopping to go to the bathroom again! So, you’ll need to hold it for a bit longer or I will turn this car around. So help me God I will.
